Colorado Rockies: Don’t jump ship yet, there is still hope

Stop! Don’t don’t do it Colorado Rockies’ fans!  After losing 11 of the last 13 games including the latest four-game sweep to the Giants, fans are acting as if they are on the Titanic and ready to jump overboard.

Selfishly, since I will be making two long road trips in the next few weeks to watch the Colorado Rockies play, I must refuse to jump until my trips are over despite the water rushing in.

That said, I am going to do something I am not comfortable doing and try to be the voice of optimism.  Even with the horrid play, there are some reasons to still cling onto for hope.

First and foremost, the Rockies are still only a handful of games back of the final Wild Card spot.  Believe it or not, but they are one hot streak away from being right where they want to be heading into the latter months of the season.

They have bounced back from a worse stretch already this season.  After starting the season losing 12 of the first 15 games, the Rockies went on to win 41 of the next 68.  With 66 games remaining, another run like that would put them in the thick of it.

The Rockies’ four All-Stars have not been good this month.  Charlie Blackmon, Trevor Story, David Dahl, and Nolan Arenado are batting a combined 38-for-176 (.216) with 7 HR and 19 RBI with 22 runs scored in 12 games this month.  The worst coming from Nolan who is 6 for his last 35 at the plate.

The struggles of these four cannot and will not continue for much longer.  When they do finally break out of this funk, opposing pitcher will fear facing this lineup once again.

That’s all the optimism I can handle for a while.  The band on the ship is still playing but the situation is looking more dire by the day.  If the Rockies don’t get it turned around quick, there won’t be many fans left hanging on.
