Colorado Rockies: Top prospect Brendan Rodgers to be called up from Triple-A Albuquerque
According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com, the Colorado Rockies #1 prospect, according to MLB.com and other outlets, Brendan Rodgers will likely be called up either today or tomorrow to play with the Rockies in Philadelphia. However, no corresponding roster move has been made and the Rodgers call up has not yet been announced.
The Colorado Rockies are likely to call up their top prospect, infielder Brendan Rodgers, to make his major league debut this weekend for the Rockies in Philadelphia this weekend.
Rodgers, 22, is hitting .356/.421/.644 in his first season in Triple-A so the calls of late to have him called up are based on that.
It remains to announced by the Rockies and the corresponding roster move is also unknown. In the bottom of the ninth inning in Wednesday’s extra inning loss to the reigning World Champion Boston Red Sox, the Rockies shortstop, Trevor Story, collided with left fielder Raimel Tapia on a play.

Story was removed from the game for precautionary reasons and after the game, described that he had suffered “just a knee bruise” and that “I wanted to be smart and try not to put it at any more risk.”
While he (and Tapia both, who stayed in the game) both avoided serious injury, it still could be something that could land Story on the injured list.
As a result, that could be one of the moves that could be made to call up Brendan Rodgers. This would also, at least for 10 days, get him some consistent playing time, which was one of the concerns that Rox Pile’s Kevin Henry had in this article just two days ago. After the ten days, Rodgers could conceivably move to play everyday at second base if, as Rox Pile’s Nick Ryan Bracken noted earlier this morning, the Rockies current second basemen, Ryan McMahon, continues to not produce.
If Story does not land on the IL and Rodgers is recalled, the Rockies could send McMahon back to Albuquerque (highly unlikely) or they could send Pat Valaika back, even though they just called him up (more likely).
Either way it happens, it is a move that Rockies fans have been longing to hear: Brendan Rodgers in the major leagues.
