In the past few days, there have been some news and notes about the Colorado Rockies and their divisional rivals in the NL West.

  • Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado recently spoke to the Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders (subscription required) and he spoke about his offseason and the arbitration process, in which he and the Rockies are $6 million a part in conversations. Arenado says that his shoulder, which was a lingering issue for him in the stretch run of the 2018 season, is fully healed. In regards to arbitration, it doesn’t seem like he is involved in the process much as he said that he is not distracted by the process and his “agent is taking care of all that.”
  • We reported yesterday that the Rockies have signed first baseman Mark Reynolds to a minor league contract. However, since the publication of that article, the terms of that contract have since been released. Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that if Reynolds makes the Rockies major league team, he will get a base salary of $1 million. There are also $1 million in incentives in the contract so he can make a maximum of $2 million on the contract.
  • Heyman also reported on Thursday morning that the Rockies are among a few teams interested in former Rockie outfielder Carlos Gonzalez. As you may remember last year, Gonzalez was a free agent but the Rockies signed him to a one year deal in the middle of spring training (March 12th to be exact) on a 75 percent pay cut.
  • Yesterday, the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been rebuilding this offseason as they let go of

    A.J. Pollock

    and

    Patrick Corbin

via free agency and traded first baseman

    Paul Goldschmidt

to St. Louis, have come to terms former Rockies closer

    Greg Holland

    to a one-year deal, according

Robert Murray and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

. Holland still has to pass a physical but Jon Heyman

    reports

that the deal is for $3.25 million and another $3.5 million in incentives so, in total, Holland can earn as much as $6.75 million in the contract.

  • Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reported earlier today that the J.T. Realmuto sweepstakes are heating up as it seems like it is down to five teams: the Dodgers, Padres, Astros, and Reds. Jon Heyman reports that the Rays are still in discussions as well and the Dodgers are in, but are not as aggressive as the other four teams currently. It would be particularly interesting to see Realmuto in San Diego due to the next note…
  • Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic

    notes

that the Padres are going to meet

    Bryce Harper

    and Scott Boras

    tonight

in Harper’s hometown of Las Vegas. He

    added

that no deal is imminent with the Padres. Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune

    reports

that the Padres are, essentially doing “extended due diligence” since Harper has not had many suitors. it is interesting to see that the Padres, who are currently in the basement of the NL West, are at least in discussions on Realmuto, Harper, and

    Manny Machado

. Acee was the first to

    report

that the Padres are in on Machado. Acee reported in the former article that the Padres are not as interested in Harper as they are on Machado. Dennis Lin of The Athletic also

    reported

that the Padres are mulling a face-to-face meeting with Machado as well. Jon Morosi of MLB.com

    reported

that there are four main teams on Harper: the Padres, Nationals, White Sox, and Phillies with one other team on the periphery but there is an “overwhelming likelihood” that one of the four named teams will sign Harper.

It looks as if the Hot Stove might actually be heating up so stay tuned to the rumors and news.
