Colorado Rockies: There’s only one thing left to do…
It’s been a long, wild, and emotional ride for the Colorado Rockies this season, especially this past week with the sweep by the Dodgers and then the sweep of the Diamondbacks. Hang on a little bit longer and even tighter because this ride isn’t over yet.
The final week of the season is upon us and the Rockies are only 1.5 games back of both the Dodgers in the NL West and Cardinals in the Wild Card. The Rockies come home to Coors Field desperately needing to make up ground in the final 7 games. Here is a look at what is left for these 3 teams.
Cardinals
They have 3 games against the Brewers, a day off Thursday, followed by 3 games at the Cubs. They will likely face Chase Anderson, Gio Gonzalez, and former Rockie Jhoulys Chacin against the Brewers. Then the Cubs’ series probables are Kyle Hendricks, Cole Hamels, and Mike Montgomery.
Dodgers
They have 6 road games remaining as they head to the Diamondbacks for 3 games, an off day Thursday, and finish the season at their long time bitter rivals Giants.
Unless something changes, they will likely see Robbie Ray, Matt Koch, and Zack Greinke against the D-Backs and Dereck Rodriguez, Andrew Suarez, and Derek Holland against the Giants.

Rockies
The Rockies will likely face off against Zach Eflin, Vince Velasquez, Nick Pivetta, and Jake Arrieta when the Phillies come to town on Monday. Then, they finish the season against the Nationals, facing Joe Ross, Erick Fedde, and Stephen Strasburg.
The fact that the Rockies are 2 games back in the win column is a cause for concern. A 5-2 home stand would mean that they would have to hope for a split by either the Dodgers or the Cardinals to force a tiebreaker game.
If the Brewers and Cubs are still battling for first in the Central, the likelihood of catching the Redbirds is much better.
More importantly, the Rockies need to take care of their own business and not worry about scoreboard watching. As long as they keep winning, everything should fall into place.
As Tom Berenger’s character Jake Taylor famously said in the 1989 baseball movie classic “Major League,” “Well, then I guess there’s only one thing left to do…Win the whole #@$*#% thing.”
So wear your purple and get out to Coors Field this week Rockies fan. It’s time to get Rocktober started early.
