Late Sunday night, it was announced that the Colorado Rockies have promoted their top prospect Brendan Rodgers from Double-A Hartford to Triple-A Albuquerque.

After the Yard Goats 8-1 loss to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (the Blue Jays Double-A affiliate which currently features Forrest Wall, who was just traded to the Jays in Seunghwan Oh trade), MiLB.com announced that the Colorado Rockies top prospect Brendan Rodgers (#6 prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com), will be promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Rodgers, who will turn 22 on August 9, had a slash line of .275/.342/.493 with 23 doubles, 17 home runs, and 62 RBIs in 95 games for the Yard Goats.

As MiLB.com also noted, he hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games and finished his tenure with the Yard Goats with a .270/.336/.469 slash line, 23 homers, and 69 RBI in 133 games. Rodgers has been an All-Star for three straight seasons as represented the U.S. in All-Star Futures Game in 2017 and 2018.

This move may not be surprising with the Rockies recently promoting another one of their prospects, Garrett Hampson, to the major leagues after they placed second baseman DJ LeMahieu on the disabled list for the third time this season; this time, with an oblique strain. Hampson is hitting .235/.350/.412 in six games at the major league level thus far.

With Rodgers being elevated to Triple-A Albuquerque, it will be interesting to see in September (assuming Rodgers plays well), if he will be promoted to the major league level as a September call up or if he will be left off the roster.

The Isotopes will finish out a wrap-around four game long weekend series against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (formerly the Rockies Triple-A affiliate before Albuquerque but now, they are the Brewers affiliate) at 6:40 PM MT on Monday.

The ‘Topes are in the midst of a skid in which they have lost six of seven, which has dropped their record to 50-57, which is last in the Pacific Coast League’s Pacific Southern division, 8.5 games back of the El Paso Chiahuahuas, the Padres affiliate. They, then, will return home for a seven game homestand against the Round Rock Express (Rangers affiliate) and the New Orleans Baby Cakes (Marlins affiliate).
