Earlier today, it was announced that Rockies outfielder Mike Tauchman was named the Player of the Month for the month of May in the Pacific Coast League and before the start of their series in Cincinnati with the Reds, the Colorado Rockies announced some roster moves that include Tauchman.

The Pacific Coast League offices announced their player of the month for the month of May on Tuesday and the winner of that was none other than Rockies outfielder Mike Tauchman.

Of all players in Triple-A, Tauchman had the most hits (44), total bases (81), and runs (31) while batting .379 (44-for-116) in a total of 29 games. In addition, Tauchman had 19 extra-base hits, including eight home runs, and 24 RBI, which was good enough for second-best in the PCL.

Tauchman also had an on-base perccentage of .426 and a .698 slugging percentage. Combined, that made his OPS 1.125 for may, a mark that was also second-highest in the PCL.

As a result of him doing so well in the past month, the Rockies announced that they would be recalling Tauchman from the minor leagues. In a corresponding move, they would option infielder Daniel Castro back to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Castro has struggled in his 18 games at the major league level this season as he had a slash line of .174/.191/.261 with an OPS+ of 15 and wRC+ of -5. His numbers were even worse before his game on May 30 against the Giants, when he went  2-for-3.

Prior to that game, his slash line was .140/.159/.233. Since that game, however, he has only seen one inning of play and that was as a defensive replacement for Trevor Story in the ninth inning this past Saturday.

The Rockies are hoping that Castro will have a similar path that Mike Tauchman has had, as he had a slash line of .043/.154/.043 in the major leagues before being sent back to Albuquerque, where he subsequently won the Player of the Month award.
