The Colorado Rockies had a rough start to their nine game roadtrip in Miami but they had a good series in the Windy City against the Cubs and an excellent series in the Big Apple against the Mets.
With the Rockies 3-2 win against the Mets, they wrap up their nine game roadtrip with a 6-3 record.
The Colorado Rockies swept the New York Mets by a score of 8-7 on Friday, 2-0 on Saturday, and 3-2 on Sunday. Here are some keys to each of the games.
Friday’s 8-7 win
In the first game of the series, the Rockies’ bats came out with a bang. They scored five runs in the first inning of the game off Mets starter Zack Wheeler. German Marquez pitched very well for the Rockies as he went six innings while only allowing two runs, striking out eight, and not walking a batter.
The only man in the lineup, excluding the pitcher, who didn’t get at least one RBI was Gerardo Parra, but he still had two singles and a walk.
The Rockies bullpen made it interesting as Chris Rusin, Jake McGee, and Wade Davis allowed a combined five runs but they squeaked out the victory.

Saturday’s 2-0 win
The key to Saturday’s win was Chad Bettis. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing six hits and only walking one.
It was 1-0 heading to the ninth inning, after Nolan Arenado had a homer in the first inning but David Dahl came through with a RBI single in the 9th to make it 2-0. However, that’s all the Rockies pitching would need.
Sunday’s 3-2 win
Kyle Freeland gave the Rockies their eighth quality start of the roadtrip as he went seven innings while only allowing two runs, striking out eight, and only walking one. Three of the four hits he allowed were in the first inning so for six innings, he only allowed a single to Jose Lobaton in the second inning and walked Wilmer Flores in the fourth.
Believe it or not, Ian Desmond was the key to Sunday’s win offensively. On Friday, he went 2-for-5 with a double and a RBI and on Sunday, he went 2-for-4 with two solo homers. It has been noted that Desmond has been a groundball machine thus far on the season but obviously, with the two homers on Sunday, he changed that up a bit.
The Rockies have been looking for him to breakout of his funk for, essentially, a year plus so, perhaps, with his performance on Sunday.
