Reasons for optimism

While the offense was bad, the Rockies pitched pretty well! They allowed just seven runs in three games to a team that just won a series at Dodger Stadium and put up eight runs in a Clayton Kershaw start.

Senzatela was fantastic in his 3.2 innings of relief on Friday, as he just allowed one hit while striking out four. German Marquez had a quality start on Saturday, allowing just two earned runs to go with six strikeouts in six innings pitched (even though it still took him 113 pitches). Chad Bettis was also effective in seven innings of work. He allowed just two runs on four hits, struck out five, and forced seven groundouts.

The injury news is also encouraging. LeMahieu could be back as soon as tomorrow, and Carlos Gonzalez is nearing a return. Kyle Freeland should make his scheduled start tomorrow at Wrigley Field in the team’s series opener with the Chicago Cubs, and Tyler Anderson is supposedly “fine” and will make his scheduled start next week.

The road trip will continue with three games against the hot-hitting Chicago Cubs, who are tied with the Atlanta Braves for the highest OBP in the National League, at .339 and are in the top three in nearly other offensive category in the National League, followed by three games against the New York Mets.
