During the start of the Colorado Rockies road trip on Friday against the Marlins, there were two injuries that occurred. Both starting pitcher Tyler Anderson and 2nd baseman DJ LeMahieu had to leave the due to injury.

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Tyler Anderson was the first to exit the game against the Marlins. His apparent injury happening in just the second inning. After reaching for his left side after taking his warm up pitches, the trainers and manager Bud Black came out of the dugout. Early reports cited Anderson as having suffered from an irregular heartbeat but Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reported after the game that Anderson was “fine,” and that there was no heart issue.

All seemed okay, though, as Anderson did stay to start the inning and struck out the Marlins Brian Anderson. However, once Cameron Maybin was at the plate he was taken out while the count was at 3-1. Anderson was replaced by Antonio Senzatela

Later in the game DJ LeMahieu was also taken out. The Colorado Rockies second baseman got a double, but his slide into second was far from pretty. This led him to experience some right hamstring tightness, thus causing LeMahieu to get called out when he was picked off at second as he couldn’t push off his right leg to get back. He did stay in the game to play defensively against the Marlins but came out an inning later. LeMahieu left the game being 1-for-2 with a double. He was replaced by Pat Valaika

What does this mean for the Rockies?

Well, if Tyler Anderson is declared to be “fine” like he says that he is, he should be able to make his next start. However, for LeMahieu there is a possibility that he could be out for a few games. If that were to happen, Pat Valaika is the top candidate to fill his shoes at second. Though this only leaves the bench with three players, Tony Wolters, Noel Cuevas, and Ryan McMahon. Down the road if this situation occurs the Colorado Rockies may be up a creek without a paddle. Also, if the injury is severe enough, we could see some roster moves.
