The Colorado Rockies just announced that they are making more moves to the 25-man roster.

Before today’s game with the San Diego Padres, the Colorado Rockies announced that they optioned right-handed reliever Scott Oberg to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Taking his place in the bullpen and on the 25-man roster is right-hander Brooks Pounders. Pounders was not on the Rockies 40-man roster so, for him to get on the 40-man roster, the Rockies designated right-handed pitcher Zach Jemiola for assignment.

Oberg had pitched well heading into the series but he, and most of the Rockies bullpen, were roughed up yesterday in the team’s 13-5 loss to the San Diego Padres. Oberg only went 1/3 of an inning while allowing three hits, five runs (all earned), and two walks. With that outing, his ERA skyrocketed from 2.53 to 6.55.

Thus far on the season, Pounders has no record in seven games with Triple-A Albuquerque. He has pitched 10 innings with an ERA of 3.60 while allowing nine hits, four runs (all earned), four walks, and nine strikeouts. He also has experience in the major leagues as he has pitched in the majors for parts of the last two seasons with the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels. However, in 24 games at the major league level, he had an ERA of 9.78. He was also a non-roster invitee for the Rockies in spring training.

For Jemiola, it’s a bit of a surprising move by the Rockies. He is not ranked among the Rockies top 30 prospects by MLB.com. He has not pitched yet at all this season but he had a pretty good Arizona Fall League season, once the major and minor league seasons ended. He was 2-1 with a 2.74 ERA in 6 starts in the AFL. In 23 innings, he allowed 22 hits, 7 runs (all earned), 9 walks, and he struck out 19.
