The Grade Book

A

  • CARGO! – Carlos Gonzalez, after an up and down road trip, found his form in a loud way, with his first two at-bats featuring missiles, one for a triple and the other for a jack  off the facing of the second deck in right. It is nearly impossible to mistake a line drive off of his bat for any other bat in the big leagues, in my opinion. When he starts hitting it, the balls stay hit.
  • Bullpen – After being called upon in the 5th inning following a poor performance from starter German Marquez, the bullpen gave the Rockies what they needed but didn’t capitalize upon: time. The Bullpen went 4.1 IP, gave up just 1 run on 4 hits, and held the Braves offense in check the entire second half of the game.
  • The New Video Board – Unveiled in dramatic fashion Friday, the brand new video board in left field looks spectacular–and GIANT. I think it will do a great job of enhancing the fan experience at Coors Field and helps modernize the “look” of the ballpark a bit. Remember: Coors Field is the third oldest ballpark in the National League.
  • Awards Ceremony – Before the game, three of our favorite Rockies added some weight to their trophy cases for fantastic years in 2017. Nolan Arenado and DJ LeMahieu each took home a Gold Glove and a Wilson Defensive Player of the Year (Wilson’s version of Gold Glove) Award. Nolan also received the Platinum Glove for best overall fielder in the National League, and he joined Charlie Blackmon in winning Silver Slugger awards for the best hitters at their respective positions. Finally, Charlie received the Tony Gwynn Award for winning the batting title a year ago.
