Towards the end of March is usually when we see the final predictions made by TV analysts. ESPN got in on it, but this time with some brand new faces. It was former Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and former Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell. They did give a lot of insightful information with both the American League and National League. However, it was John Farrell that made my head turn while listening to him talk about the NL West and the Colorado Rockies.

Farrell began by choosing the order of how the Wild Card for the NL would go. He had the Arizona Diamondbacks taking the second spot, which isn’t too surprising. The big surprise, however, was which team he had taking the top Wild Card spot. Farrell surprisingly picked the Los Angeles Dodgers to have the Wild Card spot. This left three teams that could get the NL West crown.

Many watching would have believed he was going to say the San Francisco Giants due to it being an even year. But no, he didn’t. John Farrell picked the Colorado Rockies to getting the coveted NL West crown. Why the Rockies you ask? John Farrell cites the newest editions to the Rockies bullpen, Wade Davis and Bryan Shaw. He states that these additions make them a different team.

"The additions of Wade Davis and Shaw make them a different team. It’s an explosive offense and as you’re seeing the NL West is a deep and talented division.– John Farrell, ESPN"

More from Rox Pile

As stated above, he also cites the explosive offense. As of now, no team has yet to truly see the Rockies offense explode. However, Charlie Blackmon did give the D-backs a little taste of what is to come during the season with his two home runs that were the main offense of the game on Saturday in the 2-1 victory over Arizona.

Hearing a prediction like the one John Farrell gave should be very empowering to the Colorado Rockies. As some of the writers at Rox Pile believe, the Rockies get overlooked by mainstream media, though that’s not the case here with John Farrell. Mark DeRosa of MLB Network also predicted that the Rockies would win the NL West and, in fact, make it all the way to the NLCS.

This should make us feel very proud of the Colorado Rockies and extremely optimistic about beating out the Dodgers for the NL West crown.

It also doesn’t hurt that John Farrell did manage a team that has been to the playoffs and won a World Series under his tutelage in 2013. A guy like Farrell sees the amazing potential that the Colorado Rockies have and sees that they have a serious chance of not just contending. They have a chance to beat the odds stacked against them and surpass the D-backs and Dodgers to be the top team in the NL West.
