This has led to a lot of promise building for next year.

The Golden State Warriors won 73 games. After adding Kevin Durant, they only won 67 games. Did the Warriors get worse? No, but there was no way they were going to beat what they did in 2016.

The Chicago Cubs won 103 games in 2016 and, eventually, they broke their 108 year World Series to win the World Series for the first time since 1908.

This season, the Cubs were two games under .500 at the All-Star Break as they were 43-45. They played much better in the second half of the season but they still only went 92-70, an 11 game drop from last season. They did this largely with the same team in the first half and improvements (like Jose Quintana, Justin Wilson, and Alex Avila) before the July 31st trade deadline.

This is exactly what we can plan on with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Sure, the Dodgers had a really good season. But we can count on them falling off at least a bit next year. Perhaps enough for the Rockies to pass them up.

Okay, that’s may be a bit too far into the future. Still, it is yet more proof his year’s postseason loss is a sign that Rockies fans have a lot to be excited about in the near and distant future.
