Below, find our rain delay recap from Monday…

The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins have had the start of the first game of their three-game series at Coors Field delayed by rain in the downtown Denver area.

Both teams were able to take batting practice before the tarp was placed on the field. Just after 6 p.m., the Rockies announced that the game’s start would be delayed. The original start time for the contest was 6:40 p.m. Mountain time.

The series is critical in the National League Wild Card race. The Rockies entered Monday night with a two-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers and 2.5-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the race for the second Wild Card spot. Milwaukee has Monday off while the Cardinals will take on the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs on Monday night at Busch Stadium.

All three teams have six games left in the regular season. The elimination number for both the Cardinals and Brewers stands at five heading into Monday night’s action.

Once Monday’s action begins, Tyler Chatwood (8-13, 4.56 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Colorado while Miami will counter with Odrisamer Despaigne (0-3, 4.37 ERA).

Miami and Colorado met in August in south Florida and the Marlins posted a three-game sweep of the Rockies. Nolan Arenado was hit on the hand by a pitch in the series finale, putting a scare into Colorado. Luckily for Rockies fans, nothing became of the injury. Ironically, Arenado is once again dealing with a hand injury, suffered against the San Diego Padres on Sunday. However, Colorado manager Bud Black had Arenado in the lineup on Monday and he was expected to not show any ill effects from the injury.
