More from Rox Pile

Kevin Kouzmanoff would have an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning (with Jeff Francis still pitching) to make it 6-2. Brad Hawpe would hit a solo home run to gain that run back to make it a five run lead again.

In the ninth inning, Francis would give way to LaTroy Hawkins and he would allow a solo home run to Josh Bard to make it 7-3. Hawkins would retire pinch-hitter Geoff Blum after Bard, though, to close out the game.

Final Totals

Jeff Francis would go eight innings only allowing seven hits and two runs while only allowing one walk compared to eight strikeouts. He would improve his record to 17-8 with the 17 wins tying a Rockies franchise record set by Kevin Ritz in 1996 (that would later be broken by Ubaldo Jimenez in 2010 with 19).

Greg Maddux dropped to 13-11 with the loss.

The Rockies had seven runs, 12 hits, and no errors. The Padres had three runs, eight hits, and no errors.

With the sweep of the Padres complete, the Rockies were only 1 1/2 games behind them for the National League Wild Card. The Rockies would head to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers as they would look to continue their eight game winning streak.
