Former Rockie Jhoulys Chacin will be facing Jon Gray on Sunday. Chacin has been the Padres best starter as he is 12-10 with a 4.06 ERA in 29 starts. In his past four starts, he 1-2 with a 4.57 ERA. In one start against the Rockies at Petco Park this year, he went six innings allowing four runs (three earned). In Coors, in his career, he is 23-23 with a 4.21 ERA.
Jon Gray has been excellent of late. Beginning with his start on July 25, he has gone ten straight starts allowing no more than three earned runs. In those starts, he has gone at least six innings in eight of the starts. In that span, he is 5-3 with a 2.79 ERA.
Carlos Gonzalez
Carlos Gonzalez has been really hot in the month of September. In 12 games (11 starts), he has 11 runs, 14 hits, seven doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI, and a .368/.500/.868 slash line. However, in the Rockies last two games (both losses to the D’Backs), Gonzalez is 0-for-6 with three strikeouts.
Final Thoughts
Considering that the Padres are so bad (65-81 and 14 1/2 back of the Rockies), the Rockies must take at least two wins out of the series. A sweep would be much better. However, as usual, the Rockies starters have to pitch well. They will determine how well the Rockies do in the series.
