More from Rox Pile

The Tigers are absolutely no threat to get the postseason as they are 10.5 out of the wildcard and 17 back in the American League Central. In fact, they have the second worst record in the American League. This is, in large part, due to their pitching. The team’s ERA of 5.13 is the worst in the American League. Their starter’s ERA is 5.06, which is 27th in baseball.

However, their bullpen is, by far, the worst in baseball. They have a bullpen ERA of 5.26, which is nearly half a run higher than the next worst team in the majors (the Washington Nationals at 4.81).

Final Thoughts

For the Rockies to be successful in this series, as usual, you have to have good starting pitching. However, the offensive must produce more than they have for most of the month of August. They should be able to easily to this off of Zimmermann because he has been a disaster all season long.

If Fulmer has a recurring elbow injury and isn’t as sharp, the Rockies must take advantage of it and get Fulmer out of the game and get to the Tigers bullpen early.

Verlander will, obviously, be the biggest to overcome. It doesn’t help that, in one career start at Coors, he went a complete game allowing just four hits and one run so to stay in the game, Chad Bettis must be on his A game.
