Colorado Rockies series preview: a three game series with the Royals

The Royals in August
The Royals haven’t done well in August as they are 7-12 in the month. They just came off a three-game series against the Indians and they were only able to salvage the last game of the series on Sunday. The pitching staff is part of the reason for it as the starters have an ERA of 5.90 in the month and the bullpen’s ERA is an atrocious 6.30 ERA.
The offense has done very well as, in the month, they are hitting .277 with 24 home runs and 87 RBI.

Hosmer, Cain, and Moustakas
First baseman Eric Hosmer, center fielder Lorenzo Cain, and third baseman Mike Moustakas are all free-agents at the end of the season and all have played really well.
Hosmer has 148 hits in 123 games with 23 doubles, 23 home runs, 68 RBI, a .315 batting average, a .378 on-base percentage, a .496 slugging percentage, and a 129 OPS+.
Moustakas has played in 113 games and he has 126 hits with 20 doubles, 35 home runs, 77 RBI, a .284/.320/.565 slash line, and a 127 OPS+.
Cain has played in 119 games and he has 134 hits, 22 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 40 RBI, a .295/..359/.442 slashline, and an OPS+ of 111.
It will be key to limit the production of these three.
Greg Holland
Greg Holland will be heading back to Kansas City to face his former team. The Rockies hope that he can regain his form from earlier this season as he has not been good (as we discussed his woes of late in this article). In his last five appearances as he is 0-3 with a 18.71 ERA.
Next: Why you shouldn't panic about the Rockies yet
The Rockies will need him for their stretch run especially considering that the NL Wild Card race is heating up as the Brewers and Cardinals are each within 4 1/2 games of the Rockies and Diamondbacks.
