Some news and notes regarding the Colorado Rockies before they open a three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Monday night at Coors Field.

Parra plays through the pain

Gerardo Parra doesn’t mince any words about the collision he endured on Sunday afternoon against the New York Mets. The impact scared him.

Not long returned from a trip to the disabled list with a quad injury, Parra laid down a bunt in the first inning on Sunday and looked like he would beat the throw to first base. The throw was off-target and Mets first baseman Lucas Duda reached for it. When he did, his glove caught Parra’s arm, jarring the Rockies outfielder’s left shoulder.

More from Rox Pile

After an injury timeout and Parra being checked by the Rockies training staff, he stayed in the game. He finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in the 13-4 Colorado victory.

"“It scared me but that’s baseball,” Parra told Rox Pile and others inside the Rockies clubhouse. “I’m happy nothing happened. I had pain in there at first but now it’s just sore. I’m ready to play baseball.”"

Parra has been critical to Colorado’s offense since his return from the disabled list on July 7. Since then, he’s batted .458 with a homer and 10 RBI.

Batting cleanup for the Rockies on Monday night, Parra says his shoulder is fine.

"“It’s a little bit sore but nothing big,” Parra said."

DJ makes an impact (as always)

Last year’s National League batting champ, DJ LeMahieu is once again showing why he earned the title in 2016.

In Colorado’s 13-4 win over the Mets on Sunday, LeMahieu went 4-for-6. According to Elias, it marked the seventh time over the last two seasons that LeMahieu had at least four hits in a game. That is the highest such total in the National League during that time.

Jose Altuve leads Major League Baseball with 10 games of four or more hits since 2016.
