According to a published report, Colorado Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers is not only changing levels but he will be changing coasts as well.
Hudson Belinksy of Baseball America tweeted out that Rodgers would be promoted from Class A Lancaster (Calif.) to the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats following the conclusion of the California League All-Star Game on Tuesday night.
The promotion will be well-deserved as the 21-year-old Rodgers has completely torn up the California League this season. In 48 games, Rodgers has posted a .400 average with 12 homers, 21 doubles and 46 RBI. Included in those numbers was a recently snapped 23-game hitting streak.

Rodgers, the third overall pick in the 2015 Major League Baseball draft, has been rated as the fourth-best shortstop prospect in the Minors and the 10th-best overall prospect in a recent MLB.com article.
In his first professional season, Rodgers logged a .281 average with 19 home runs and 73 RBIs in 110 games with Class A Asheville.
As Nolan Lees said in his Rox Pile article about Rodgers in February…
"Rodgers spent all of 2016 in A-Ball with Asheville, and he put up an AVG/OBP/OPS slash line of .281/.342/.821. It would be exciting if a corner outfielder put up those kind of numbers, but a shortstop who was 19 for most of the season? Well, there’s a reason Rodgers made the Class-A All Star team and was named the league’s Most Outstanding Major League Prospect."

There’s seemingly little that Rodgers can’t do right now, and the move to Double-A ball will continue to see his skills be tested and progress. Don’t forget that the two draft picks ahead of Rodgers in the 2015 draft (Dansby Swanson and Alex Bregman) have also seen time in the Majors. If Rodgers continues to progress, he’s a player who could impact the Rockies even as soon as next season.
