The up-and-down season for Colorado Rockies pitcher Jeff Hoffman will have another story added to it on Sunday afternoon in San Diego.

Hoffman, who has bounced between Triple-A Albuquerque and Colorado since May 9, will get another start for the Rockies in the series finale at Petco Park after starting pitcher Tyler Anderson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation.

When Hoffman has gotten the start for the Rockies this season, he has been impressive. The 24-year-old right-hander has posted a 2-0 mark with a 2.92 ERA while grabbing wins over the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 11 and the Philadelphia Phillies on May 22.

One of the reasons for Hoffman’s success has been his ability to pound the strike zone. He has 15 strikeouts versus just two walks. With opponents hitting just .196 against him, he’s posted a 0.89 WHIP.

Looking at Hoffman’s stats, it’s easy to see why he was called upon for another when Anderson was sent to the shelf. Anderson, who has been forced to wear a knee brace to deal with the inflammation, was tagged for six runs and a season-high 11 hits in his last outing against the Seattle Mariners on May 30.

Anderson’s injury opens the door for Hoffman, who has been recalled by Colorado four times from Triple-A since May 9. Despite the multiple trips between Triple-A and MLB, Hoffman has excelled in his last six games overall at the two levels, posting a 3.34 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.

In his Major League career, Hoffman is 2-4 with a 4.40 ERA. That includes a start at Petco Park last season where San Diego hopped on him for seven runs in 2.2 innings in a 14-1 Padres win.
