Colorado Rockies Injury Update: David Dahl ‘Improving’ and ‘Healing’
Prior to Tuesday’s game at Coors Field against the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black gave a status update on injured Colorado outfielder David Dahl.
Dahl has been out of action since suffering a stress reaction to his sixth rib in early March. It was reported earlier by Nick Groke of The Denver Post that Dahl would rejoin the Rockies during their upcoming series in San Francisco. Black, however, provided even more of an update during his daily chat with the media in the Colorado dugout.
“He’s improving. He’s healing. He’s playing catch. He’s moving around,” Black said of Dahl. “Anything rotational we’re staying away from. As far as activities increasing, anything rotational is not happening. Swinging is not happening. Playing catch, throwing and running is happening. Weight training is happening. Strength and conditioning is happening. Swinging a bat is not happening. And, you know what, that’s important in this game.”

Black also said that there is another scan of Dahl’s rib coming up at a date to be determined. The Rockies will learn next steps during that scan (which could happen during the upcoming series in San Francisco) and have a better sense of when Dahl can return to the team.
Last year in his rookie season, Dahl hit .315 in 63 games with seven homers, 24 RBI and five stolen bases.
With Dahl sidelined, the Rockies have turned to Gerardo Parra to take over duties in left field. Heading into Tuesday’s game against the Padres, Parra was hitting a team-high .414 with a homer and six RBI in 29 at-bats.
Dahl is one of three key pieces of the Rockies offense currently on the shelf. Ian Desmond was hit by a pitch in spring training and underwent surgery for a hand fracture. Catcher Tom Murphy is still recovering from a hairline fracture of his forearm.
