We are one day closer to the 25th Opening Day in the history of the Colorado Rockies!

When the Rockies take the field on Monday at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers, Colorado will be looking to improve upon its all-time Opening Day record of 13-11. Colorado has won its last two Opening Day games, downing Milwaukee to start the 2015 season and besting Arizona to open last year’s campaign.

This marks the fourth time the Rockies and Brewers have faced each other on Opening Day. It also marks the fourth time that Colorado and Milwaukee have opened the season against each other in Milwaukee. All have come since the 2010 season.

Colorado has opened the season on the road for the past six seasons, including this year. The 2011 season opener against Arizona is the only time the Rockies have started the season at Coors Field since the 2007 campaign.

In all, Colorado has opened the season at home just seven times. Three of those came consecutively from 2005-07 and six of those have been at Coors Field. In 1994, the Rockies opened the season by hosting the Philadelphia Phillies at Mile High Stadium.

This season, Jon Gray has drawn the opening start for the Rockies against Milwaukee. He becomes the sixth different pitcher to open Colorado’s season on the mound in the last seven campaigns. Jorge De La Rosa drew the start to open the 2014 and 2016 seasons. He is one of seven Rockies pitchers to start on the mound in two Opening Day games.

One interesting note about Gray is that he will draw his first Opening Day start in the first time he has been on Colorado’s Opening Day roster. Last season, he was on the disabled list with an abdominal injury.

In all, Colorado has used 18 different Opening Day pitchers in their 25-year history. Their record stands at 10 wins, seven losses and seven no-decisions.

If Colorado beats Milwaukee on Monday, it will be the third consecutive Opening Day win for the Rockies. That would tie the team’s longest Opening Day win streak, established between 2004 and 2006.
