Colorado Rockies: Stephen Cardullo Hits First Career Home Run

Recent call-up utility outfielder Stephen Cardullo had his second career hit today for the Colorado Rockies – his first ever major league home run.

Stephen Cardullo hit his homer in the seventh-inning in the Colorado Rockies 7-0 shutout in Game 1 of today’s split doubleheader versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Prior to his home run today, Cardullo had one career hit in five at-bats (.200 average).

Cardullo came in the game to pinch hit for pitcher Chris Rusin and his homer came off Dodgers pitcher Casey Fien.

Today is Cardullo’s 29th birthday – not a bad birthday present to himself!

Cardullo was drafted in the 24th-round of the 2010 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. After spending two seasons in their minor league system, Cardullo was not re-signed and he spent the next four season playing in various independent leagues, including in Canada.

Last January, the Rockies signed him and after a solid spring training campaign assigned him to Triple-A Albuquerque.

For the Isotopes, he hit .308 in 115 games with 17 HRs, 72 RBIs, 26 doubles, a OBP of .367 and an OPS of .889.

Congrats to Cardullo for hitting his first career home run today for the Rockies. This will be a day he will always remember.
