Colorado Rockies: Mark Reynolds Undergoes Successful Hand Surgery
Colorado Rockies first baseman Mark Reynolds, on the 15-day disabled list since August 12 with a injured hamate bone in his left hand, underwent surgery on the hand that reportedly went well.
In the Colorado Rockies game against the Texas Rangers on August 11, Reynolds was hit by a pitch which forced him to leave the game early in the seventh inning.

Reynolds had X-rays which proved to be inconclusive, however the following day after an MRI he was placed on the DL.
Reynolds told Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post the hand in fact had been bothering him for the previous two weeks.
“It’s been hurting me for a couple of weeks,” Reynolds said. “I’ve been doing the best I could with it hurting. I tried to tape it and not feel it. But it would hurt when I would swing and miss.”
The Rockies replaced Reynolds by calling up Ben Paulsen from Triple-A Albuquerque. The loss of Reynolds has hurt the Rockies offense. He had a slash line of .283/.354/.800 which were all well-above his career averages.
Paulsen, since his call-up, has failed to get a hit in eight at-bats and has struck out three times.
Nick Groke of the Denver Post reported the update of Reynolds’ condition a short while ago via Twitter:
Reynolds is by all likelihood out for the rest of the season, though it is pleasing he had successful surgery.
Reynolds will be a free agent after this season. Despite his season being cut short, the Rockies should make every effort to bring back Reynolds in 2017.

Reynolds was a handy middle-order hitter, but more importantly his defense at first base was simply terrific throughout the season, something of which he wasn’t known for. His retrieval of balls thrown in the dirt was exceptional, and prevented several throwing errors which may/may not have changed outcomes of games.
Here’s to a speedy recovery for Reynolds and hopefully we will see him back in a Rockies uniform in 2017.
