Oh how things have changed for the Colorado Rockies since the All-Star break.

Remember heading into the Midsummer Classic how most thought the Rockies were going to give up on the season? Going 3-9 over the final 12 games heading into the All-Star break, many thought the Rockies would join the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres as sellers in the National League West.

But this has been a different Rockies team since the festivities in San Diego. Colorado has gone 12-5 since the break and has cemented itself firmly into the discussions for a Wild Card spot.

Heading into Monday’s action, Colorado sits five games out of the second Wild Card spot with a big week of action ahead as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins, two teams ahead of the Rockies in the Wild Card chase, pay a visit to Coors Field.

Now with the Rockies in the heat of the postseason chase, it appears the Rockies may have completely flipped the script, going from sellers to buyers.

Rather than jettisoning Carlos Gonzalez, Charlie Blackmon, Jorge De La Rosa, Boone Logan or any other member of the team, the Rockies are rumored to be looking to add pieces to the puzzle for a potential postseason run.

Of course, the Rockies are seemingly going to stay on the path that they have been on throughout the trade deadline frenzy … they’re not going to do anything unless it benefits the team. A short-term gain isn’t worth a long-term sacrifice when it comes to prized prospects in the farm system.

Walt Weiss said earlier in the week that he was happy with the construction of the Rockies roster for the rest of this season. The ratio of wins and losses have proven that he has a point. Additionally, there is something to be said about team chemistry and not messing with that as the calendar turns to August.

One name that keeps coming up in circles is Tampa Bay’s Steve Pearce, a utility player who went 3-for-9 with a homer and 4 RBI against the Rockies during the Rays’ recent trip to Denver. However, he’s being targeted by several teams and has stated he’s happy in Tampa.
