Your red-hot Colorado Rockies took on the Mets at Citi Field Saturday night. It was the third of a four game series with Jorge De La Rosa facing off with the ageless wonder, Bartolo Colon. After a rain delay amounting to about thirty five minutes they were able to get underway and even the rain wasn’t enough to cool off the Rockies. They were able to extend their winning streak to five games with a 7-2 win. Charlie Blackmon stayed hot with two doubles, and two runs to go along with a three RBI night from DJ LeMahieu. They will have a chance to sweep the season series with the Mets tomorrow. Here are a few takeaways from Saturday night’s game for the Rockies going forward:

Glad We Called:

David Dahl

continues his strong start to his

major league

career. After getting a hit in each of his first five games, Dahl hit an absolute bomb to right field off Bartolo Colon in the fourth inning to give the Rockies a 3-2 lead. A fun fact stemming from this

matchup is that when Dahl was born in 1994, Colon was already 21 and debuted in rookie league later that year. Dahl now has a hit in each of his six games and has been an energizing force for the Colorado Rockies’ recent strong play. He already has two home runs, along with four runs and three RBI’s.

  1. Dodged a Bullet (Hopefully): One of our other rookie phenoms, Trevor Story, had to leave the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after diving for a ball in the six-hole and appearing to jam his thumb. Earlier in the inning, as Trevor was advancing to second following an infield single and error, he barreled into second head first and his thumb slammed into the base. Story was called out, and was visibly in pain following the incident. He was able to return on the defensive side of the inning but was pulled after the awkward dive.

Part of the reason Story is emerging as my favorite player is his willingness to but his body on the line for the team, despite already being a little roughed up. The good news for us is that Story underwent X-rays on his thumb after being removed which came back negative. Hopefully an MRI will also come back clean and he will just need to shake off the soreness. I would not be surprised to see him out of the lineup tomorrow but he should be back for the homestand.

  1. Hip Hip Jorge! De La Rosa was able to provide the Rockies with their eighth quality start in the past nine games. It was the Rockies 55th QS of the year, one more than in 2015. He went six innings allowing only two runs on six hits. He struck out four and walked two. The win, was DLR’s 85th in a Rockies uniform and could be his last. While the Rockies will likely keep most of their players at the deadline, Jorge could go with his contract up at the end of the year. Reports have swirled regarding teams scouting him during past starts, so we will have to wait and find out. Regardless, it was Jorge’s 100th career win, a major accomplishment for any pitcher. Congrats to him, hip hip!!
  1. Lights out: The Rockies bullpen threw the final three innings of the game without allowing a run. They got a little help when a Mets fan reached over the rail to catch a deep fly ball giving Wilmer Flores a home run. On replay the ball looked to be heading into Dahl’s glove before the fan reached over and caught it. The kid had perhaps the most obnoxious celebration I have ever seen. He was yelling at Dahl and giving him “the Mutombo finger,” proud that he kept him from catching it.

Unfortunately for him, after a review it was ruled fan interference and Blackmon and Dahl were the first to say goodbye to the fan as he was escorted out of Citi Field. With the help of the review, Boone Logan, Jordan Lyles and Gonzalez Germen combined for three shutout innings to end the game. The bullpen has not allowed a run in the past four games, a streak stretching over eleven innings. This coupled with the rotation’s dominance has been the key to the hot streak.
