In Part Two of the AltiTwo Talk Show’s Spring Training Preview, Logan and Isaac discuss the three position battles; first base, shortstop and backup catcher. They also give their Opening Day roster preview, talk about some prospects and non-roster invitees to watch.
It’s a foregone conclusion that Mark Reynolds and Ben Paulsen will split time at first base, but will Kyle Parker surprise us all and win that right-handed platoon spot? Will someone win the spot outright and be the full-time first baseman?
We also know that Nick Hundley, after a solid year both offensively and defensively, will be the starting catcher for the Rockies. There are two candidates for the backup spot; Tom Murphy and Dustin Garneau. Who will make the team? is there room for both on the roster?
The shortstop battle is the most interesting, especially regarding the recent suspension of Jose Reyes. There’s four major players; Cristhian Adames, Trevor Story, Rafael Ynoa and Daniel Descalso. Which two make the roster? With Adames out of options, does that lock Story in Triple-A for now? Will the options underwhelm and force the Rockies to go for Ian Desmond?
