Two Colorado Rockies Named Gold Glove Finalists
If the Colorado Rockies had anything to hang their hats on during the 2015 season, it was their play on the defense end. Two Rockies were named National League Gold Glove finalists Thursday morning, including second baseman DJ LeMahieu and third baseman Nolan Arenado.
These two selections come to no surprise to Rockies’ fans, seeing that these two guys made unheard of and crazy plays on a daily basis. If you remember correctly, both of these players brought home the hardware the previous season.
LeMahieu was outstanding yet again manning second base for the Rockies, committing just nine errors in 761 chances, registering a .988% fielding percentage. DJ led the entire National League with 452 assists this season, Andrelton Simmons close behind at 444. As for second base goes, Dee Gordon collected 434 assists — 18 behind LeMahieu.

As for Nolan Arenado goes, he led in just about every statistical category a third baseman could. The 25-year-old committed 17 errors in 1360.0 innings played — good for a .966% fielding percentage. Arenado led in the following categories: Putouts (105), Assists (385) and Double-Plays Turned (42). Another thing worth mentioning, Arenado led all National League third baseman in Range Factor/Game sitting at 3.13, well above the player behind him, Jake Lamb, with 2.63.

As for my total take on the situation, I see Nolan Arenado bringing home yet another Gold Glove. The kid is unreal with the glove, making the unthinkable play nearly every time he touches the field. Shifting focus to DJ LeMahieu, I think Dee Gordon has the edge over him going into the final voting, seeing that he is the leading the overall fielding percentage at .992, although DJ is a leader in multiple categories. It could go either way but that is my gut feeling on the situation.
