One to watch (Ryan Casteel): Ok, so, this is a little deceiving. Don’t watch Casteel because he’s playing in Boise — he’s actually just here rehabbing an injury and will very soon be back catching in AAA Albuquerque.

But I do include Casteel on this last if only to point out his good work in AAA this season. As a catcher, he was hitting .354/.363/.505 with seven doubles, two home runs, and 19 RBI in 99 at-bats before being injured on the very last day of May.

He — and Dusin Garneau, and Tom Murphy — are surely going to quickly push the catching conversation in Denver, perhaps making Nick Hundley an expendable trade option during the winter, or before the trade deadline in 2016.

Quick hits: Taylor Black, Salvador Justo, and Cristian Quintin are all in the top 5 in the Northwest League in games pitched … Logan Sawyer is 13th in the Northwest League in ERA … Black is also second in saves … The Hawks are currently hitting .259, which is third best in the league … However, as a pitching staff, they have a 5.02 ERA, which is third-worst in the eight team Northwest League … Overall, the Hawks are 15-27, and last place in the Northwest League’s South division … In the second half alone, which just started, the Hawks are now 1-3 … Kevin Padlo, Brian Mundell, and Hamlet Marte were named Northwest League All Stars in 2015.
