Jorge De La Rosa will miss his scheduled start Tuesday night in Cincinnati, and AAA Albuquerque starter Chris Rusin has been recalled by the Colorado Rockies to make the start in his place.
De La Rosa, who has already missed time with a groin injury earlier this season, will now miss Tuesday night’s game with a cut on his hand.
Apparently, though, he will miss landing on the disabled list, according to the Denver Post:
"The cut, on De La Rosa’s left middle finger, showed up before his last start, a four-plus inning outing that resulted in a no-decision. His 774 strikeouts for the Rockies passed Ubaldo Jimenez for the club record. The Rockies won the game 7-3."
That would be a thankful development for a Rockies team that has been ravaged by injuries the last several weeks.
Time will tell if De La Rosa actually won’t hit the DL, but at least for now, it appears Rusin will make a spot start for one night only.
Rusin, a left-hander, had been up with the big club earlier this year, too. Rusin, a big league veteran formerly with the Cubs, is currently 3-2 with a 6.29 ERA in 7 games/6 starts for the Isotopes.
To make room for Rusin without sending De La Rosa to the disabled list, the club sent reliever Yohan Flande down to AAA Albuquerque.
