The Colorado Rockies have once again shaken up their bullpen, swapping a pair of relievers who are looking to find consistency on the mound.

Prior to the Rockies taking on the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a three-game series at Busch Stadium on Tuesday, Colorado recalled right-handed pitcher Carlos Estévez from Triple-A Albuquerque. To make room on the roster, the Rockies optioned right-handed pitcher Jairo Díaz to Triple-A.

This will be the fifth time that Estevez has been on Colorado’s Major League roster, this season, including a very brief stint as Colorado’s 26th man for a double-header against the Minnesota Twins on May 18. The 24-year-old Estevez is 4-0 on the season but has an 8.10 ERA with six walks and 18 strikeouts in 18 appearances. Opponents are hitting .333 against him this season.

Estevez made his debut for the Rockies last year and made the Opening Day roster for the first time in his career this season. In all, Estevez has gone 7-7 with 11 saves and a 5.90 ERA with 34 walks and 77 strikeouts over 81 career appearances with the Rockies.

The 26-year-old Diaz was recalled from Triple-A on July 17, marking his second appearance on the Rockies active roster this season. So far this season, the right-hander is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA. He has logged five walks and two strikeouts in four appearances with Colorado this season. On Monday night against St. Louis, Diaz simply couldn’t find the strike zone, issuing a season-high three walks in just one inning. Combined with three hits, Diaz ended up surrendering two runs in his lone frame of action.

Diaz missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In 30 career appearances across parts of three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2014) and Colorado (2015-17), Diaz has posted an 0-1 record with a 3.64 ERA with 14 walks and 28 strikeouts.
