Contrary to what some of the local media outlets are saying on the Denver airwaves, it actually is baseball season. It’s also time for the Colorado Rockies to take center stage.

While I think every crevice of Tony Romo’s back has been debated, discussed and examined on the radio this morning and every potential fourth-string tight end who could make his way onto the Denver Broncos roster has been debated, it’s time to focus some attention on what’s happening in Milwaukee right now and what will be happening at 20th and Blake this weekend. By the way, have you checked out the forecast for this weekend’s home-opening series at Coors Field? It’s shaping up to be a great weekend.

So let’s talk baseball … but let’s start our chat with a football reference. Ironic huh?

We’re just one game into the season and Colorado started the 2017 campaign off in fine style with a 7-5 roller-coaster win over the Brewers yesterday afternoon. Heading into Tuesday’s action, they’re undefeated and sitting atop the National League West along with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Yes, one game. Staying with the Wisconsin theme here, let’s quote Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers: “R-E-L-A-X.”

Much like Tony Romo’s back, I think Rockies fans looked at every potential story angle yesterday. Why did Jon Gray implode in the fifth inning? What clicked for Adam Ottavino suddenly in relief? Is Greg Holland going to return to his All-Star form? Why did the top of the lineup (Charlie Blackmon, DJ LeMahieu and Carlos Gonzalez) go 0-for-13?

Take what you want from yesterday’s game … but remember the Rockies started last season with a win in Arizona as well. The starting battery in that game was Jorge De La Rosa and Nick Hundley. They’re both now with Colorado’s division foes after not being re-signed in the offseason.

There’s a lot to break down from Monday’s win if you’re a Rockies fan. There’s a lot to digest from the loss if you’re a Brewers fan. Whichever side you’re on, it was one game. There are 161 more of them to come, including Tuesday’s matchup in Milwaukee.

One thing to watch on Tuesday

Can Gerardo Parra keep it going?

Starting in place of the injured David Dahl, Parra went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Monday’s Colorado win. Much of the talk surrounding Parra in the offseason was that 2016 as a fluke and he would return to some of his former numbers at the plate in 2017. So far, so good. By the way, he’s 2-for-3 lifetime against Davies.
