The Colorado Rockies won 10-5 Saturday afternoon in Denver, though the game wasn’t even that close, thanks to 17 hits and three home runs that had the Rox up 10-2 before a poor ninth inning from reliever Rafael Betancourt.

Chris Rusin was impressive — allowing two runs and striking out eight batters in seven innings — and Wilin Rosario and Carlos Gonzalez both went yard (Rosario twice) to ride the Rox to victory.

With all that being said, and with the recap available for those inclined to see how it all went down, let’s cover some game notes from today’s victory:

  • There was a one hour, eleven minute rain delay before the game, though once it started, the weather in Denver was phenomenal.
  • The Rockies mashed 17 hits. Every starter had at least one hit besides Brandon Barnes — even starting pitcher Chris Rusin had a bunt base hit.
  • Speaking of Rusin, his hit was the first for Rockies’ pitchers in some time, breaking an 0-for-49 streak at the plate. Pitchers are never good hitters, but that 0-for-49 clip was… bad.
  • Giancarlo Stanton was 1-for-5 with four strikeouts, all against Rusin. Rusin is the first pitcher in big league history to strikeout Stanton four times in a game.
  • When Wilin Rosario and Carlos Gonzalez hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, it was the first time the Rockies enjoyed back-to-back shots since September 3rd, when Nolan Arenado and Corey Dickerson did the deed.
  • Rosario’s last (and only other) two home run game was May 5, 2012, against the Braves.
  • Rafael Ynoa got a pinch-hit single for Rusin in the seventh, and is now up to a .274 average on the season, further solidifying his value as a switch-hitting utility infielder/pinch hitter.
  • Rafael Betancourt‘s struggles continued. In his first game since allowing a go-ahead grand slam on Tuesday night against the Dodgers, he allowed three runs in the ninth inning on five hits. He may be throwing too many strikes, tossing 22 of his 26 pitches in the zone on Saturday.
  • The Rockies could’ve done more damage than they did, leaving eight runners on base in the game. Though, to be fair, the Marlins left ten runners on base, so, yeah.

The Rockies are now 25-29 on the season, and have a chance to win this weekend’s series with a victory tomorrow afternoon, before facing a tough St. Louis Cardinals team early next week.
