Watch former Rockies’ draft pick Casey Weathers throw a baseball really hard (Video)

Watch this highlight video as former Colorado Rockies first round pick Casey Weathers throws a baseball really, really hard.

You remember Casey Weathers. The Rockies drafted him high – like, really high – in the 2007 MLB Amatuer Draft.

There was relative excitement at the time when the team drafted Weathers with the no. 8 overall selection that year. He pitched at Vanderbilt as teammate of David Price, and while he was no sure thing because no draft pick is, it seemed like a solid selection for a Rockies’ organization that absolutely cannot afford to miss on high draft picks.

As we all know by now, the Rockies ended up whiffing on that pick. They whiffed in a big way. Weathers never pitched past Double-A Tulsa in the organization before he was dealt to the Chicago Cubs. In his seven-year career, those two stints in Double-A still represent the highest level at which he has pitched.

Save for his 2008 season when his star still appeared to be rising, Weathers has never posted an ERA below 4.00. Since leaving the Rockies in a trade, Weathers posted a 6.62 ERA in 2012 in 31 appearances in the Cubs’ organization and a 13.06 ERA in eight appearances in High-A ball last year in the Rays’ minor leagues.

Suffice it to say that Weathers has been a bust, and while he might still find some success as a big league pitcher, that draft pick was a miserable failure for the Rockies.

As for his future in baseball, it would appear that Casey Weathers can still throw it hard. Granted, this is not exactly a representative highlight in that he has a running start. Even still, this is pretty amazing.

It seems like every relief pitcher in baseball can throw it in the mid 90’s, but this still might be the kind of eyebrow-raising power to earn Weathers another look.

Maybe not from the Rockies, though.
