Roger Bernadina Signs With Rockies On Minor League Deal

The Colorado Rockies made some minor news this past week by signing veteran outfielder Roger Bernadina to a minor league contract.

With their decision to sign outfielder Roger Bernadina to a minor league deal, the Rockies are helping us out. They are giving us a way to effectively and accurately monitor the status of the 2015 season.

More from Rox Pile

If at any point during this season Roger Bernadina makes an appearance in a Colorado Rockies’ uniform, that will be your surefire sign that things have gone terribly, terribly wrong. If the Rockies somehow still need to use Bernadina with their current bevy of outfield options, it will be time to sound the freaking panic alarms.

The Rockies signed the 30-year-old outfielder last week, as reported by Baseball America. He was actually seen in the big leagues as recently as this past September, playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. With that said, he is essentially a candidate to play a lot of innings for the Albuquerque Isotopes this season.

In the league since 2008, Bernadina has played for the Washington Nationals, Philadelphia Phillies, Cincinnati Reds, and Dodgers. He split his time between Cincinnati and Los Angeles last season, playing in just 53 Major League games. He is a career .236/.307/.354 hitter with 59 career stolen bases, though he only stole four bases in 2013 and two bases last season.

Bernadina has enjoyed success against the Rockies in his career, batting .304/.396/.435 in 25 games against them.

You know what they say: if you can’t beat the mediocre journeyman outfielder, get him to join you.
