The Milwaukee Brewers
Entering the 2022 season, if there was one team that didn’t need starting pitching, it was the Milwaukee Brewers. They had five starters with an ERA+ of 129 or better. But now they need starters.
Corbin Burnes is pitching like the Cy Young Award winner that he was last year but everyone else has regressed. Eric Lauer is still pitching well but his ERA+ has dropped by 24 percent (131 to 107). Brandon Woodruff has gone from a 163 ERA+ to a 103 ERA+. Adrian Houser and Freddy Peralta are both below league average now and both are on the injured list.
Even with Burnes’ 2.20 ERA and a 187 ERA+, their starters have an ERA of 3.92, which is 14th in the sport, or 25 percent higher than it was last year.
The Atlanta Braves
The reigning World Series Champion Atlanta Braves are the final team on our list. Their starters have an ERA that is better than any other team on our list at 3.87, which is tied for 12th.
Spencer Strider has stepped up for them in the rotation but the back of the rotation has been shaky and, in particular, Ian Anderson. Anderson has a 4.98 ERA in 17 starts. In his last eight starts, he has a 5.77 ERA.
All stats and standings are current as of Tuesday, July 12.
