Entering July 4, the Colorado Rockies are in a precarious spot. They are nine games under .500 and eight games back of the St. Louis Cardinals for the third and final National League Wild Card spot.

With the trade deadline being exactly four weeks away from today, the Rockies have to do some serious introspective planning on what is next.

They need to replenish their farm system (particularly at the upper levels) and they need to give some playing time to their players that are blocked, like Elehuris Montero, to see if they can produce at the big league level on an everyday basis.

One player that the Rockies should seriously consider trading is first baseman C.J. Cron.

In 79 games, Cron has 19 home runs, 64 RBI, and a slash line of .298/.349/.550. Here are where some of his stats rank in the National League.

  • .550 slugging percentage (3rd)
  • .899 OPS (8th)
  • 92 hits (4th)
  • 170 total bases (2nd)
  • 19 home runs (5th)
  • 64 RBI (3rd)
  • 38 extra-base hits (4th)

His 136 OPS+ would also be the best on the Rockies since Charlie Blackmon’s 141 OPS+ in 2017.

The 32-year-old is only making about $3.625 million for the rest of the 2022 season and making $7.25 million next season before he becomes a free agent.

With a team-friendly contract for the rest of this season and next season, the Rockies could get a haul for Cron if they play their cards right.

Here are seven MLB teams that could or should trade for C.J. Cron.
