Colorado Rockies: Injury updates on Brendan Rodgers, Trevor Story, and Raimel Tapia
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black provided injury updates to the media, including Rox Pile, before Friday’s game against the San Francisco Giants.
Infielder Brendan Rodgers returns to the lineup for the first time since last Saturday. He was hit by a pitch on the hand and he had been out of the lineup since then. He will hit third in the lineup and play shortstop.
Brendan Rodgers will be the Colorado Rockies shortstop because Trevor Story is out of the lineup.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story will not be in the starting lineup on Friday. In the 4th inning of Friday’s loss against the San Francisco Giants, Trevor Story was hit in the elbow/forearm area of his left arm. He stayed in the game for a while but he was removed after his next at-bat in the sixth inning.
Bud Black recently spoke with the media and provided an update on Story’s condition.
“(Trevor) and I talked about him not starting one of these games here in San Francisco,” Black said. “Tonight, it made sense (not to have him in the starting lineup) based on a little bit of soreness in the forearm. He’ll be fine. He’s just not starting today.”
Black also provided an update on outfielder Raimel Tapia, who went on the 10-day IL with a sprained toe after being removed from Sunday’s game in the second inning.
Black said that Tapia “is going to play some catch (and) activate the arm” in the near future. Currently, he is riding an exercise bike for cardio, lifting some weights, and other strength training. However, Black said that hitting and running are not in Tapia’s rehab program right now but “hopefully in a few days,” he will resume with hitting and running.
In the meantime, the Rockies have primarily used Connor Joe as his replacement both in left field and in the leadoff spot in the Rockies lineup. Joe has led off in each game this week (including today) for the Rockies and he has started in left field in every game except for when Sam Hilliard played left and Joe played first (C.J. Cron was the DH) on Wednesday in Houston.
Austin Gomber (9-6, 3.79 ERA) will start for the Rockies and he will oppose Anthony DeSclafani (10-5, 3.28 ERA).
