There is plenty to talk about on the latest Rox Pile Rockies Report, including injury news regarding Kyle Freeland and Scott Oberg and how that impacts the Colorado Rockies. Additionally, Rockies prospect Alan Trejo joins the show from Scottsdale to discuss spring training.

Trejo, a 24-year-old non-roster invitee to this year’s Rockies spring training, hit 15 home runs at Double-A Hartford to tie for the team lead in that category. It was part of a campaign that saw him named as a midseason All-Star for the second consecutive year (following the same honor at Class-A Lancaster).

By the way, he’s been called (here, subscription required) the second-best defender at shortstop in Colorado’s system, behind only Trevor Story. You can get a taste for some of Trejo’s abilities in the field in this video from 2019 spring training.

More from Colorado Rockies Podcast

So far this spring, Trejo (on Twitter here) has seen the vast majority of his time at shortstop but has also played second and third, showing his versatility.

Last season, Trejo spent the entire 60-game shortened campaign as part of the player pool at Colorado’s alternate training site. We talk to him about that, the lack of a minor league season and what’s that done for him and others, as well as some of his favorite learning moments this spring playing behind Story.

Additionally, we tackle one of the biggest topics on the minds of Colorado fans right now: What the injuries to Kyle Freeland and Scott Oberg mean for the psyche of the team heading into Opening Day. Who are some of the leaders in the Rockies clubhouse who are going to help this team through what has been a daunting week?

We also discuss the first 10 games of the season and what that might tell us about this team.
