The Colorado Rockies enter the fourth straight September well outside of playoff contention. But things are a little bit different this time around. How so? The Rockies are actually playing some of their lesser service time players.

The team lost two of three in Atlanta against the reigning World Series champion Atlanta Braves  (while making some history in a bad way in the series finale). But before the series, the club called up prospect Michael Toglia and outfielder Sean Bouchard. Each of them played in all three games in the series.

The Rockies have also been utilizing Elehuris Montero a bit more as well.

Each of them have relied on Ryan McMahon in the Rockies clubhouse

On this episode of the Rox Pile Rockies Report, Kevin Henry and I discussed some of what Kevin saw in Atlanta with the Rockies.

One of the things we discuss was Michael Toglia. His locker was next to Ryan McMahon and Kevin caught up with him about his veteran leadership with Toglia, Montero, and some other rookies this season.

In addition to that, we also discuss some of the players that could see some time in the majors with the club for the rest of the season as well as some players that could be on borrowed time.

Overall for the Rockies, they have a lot of players that are not pulling their weight. We discuss how the club has a plethora of outfielders and none of them have particularly glowing.

Since the club had a lot of minor league players that they will have to protect from the Rule V Draft, the Rockies will have to get rid of some of their current MLB players and they could do it very soon.

We also discuss some of the other happenings throughout baseball right now as well as what lies ahead for the club on the schedule. You can check out the podcast here or download it wherever you listen to your podcasts.
