Former Colorado Rockies infielder Mark Reynolds announced his retirement from baseball today.

Former Colorado Rockies infielder Mark Reynolds was a guest on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio with Steve Torre and Danny Kanell today and he announced that he is retiring from baseball.

Reynolds said that many of his friends and family already knew about it but he broke the news to the public himself in that interview with Torre and Kanell today.

Reynolds, 36, played parts of 13 seasons in the major leagues and three of those were with the Rockies. He also spent parts of four seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, two with the Baltimore Orioles, and part of a season with the St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, Washington Nationals, New York Yankees, and Milwaukee Brewers.

For the Rockies, he played 344 games and in 1196 plate appearances, he hit .260/.345/.450 with 48 home runs, 170 RBI, and an OPS+ of 95.

In 2017, he was a finalist for the Final Vote for the one remaining spot on the NL All-Star team but he lost to Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner. That season, Reynolds hit 30 home runs, 97 RBI, and had a slash line of .267/.352/.487 with an OPS+ of 103.

His best seasons came for the Diamondbacks, though, where he averaged 32 homers in his four seasons, which included 44 home runs in 2009.

From 2008 through 2011, he also led the majors in strikeouts as he struck out between 196 and 223 times in each of those seasons.

In his three seasons with the Rockies, though, he played well enough to be ranked in our top five first basemen list in all of Rockies history. The two men at the top of the list played for the Rockies for more than 20 years of Rockies history.

He last played for the Rockies on July 19, 2019, and that will end up being his final major league appearance.
