Colorado Rockies rumors: Top prospect Peter Lambert to debut?
The Colorado Rockies #4 prospect Peter Lambert could soon make his Major League debut.
According to Thomas Harding of MLB.com on Twitter, Colorado Rockies #4 prospect (per MLB.com) Peter Lambert will likely make his major league debut in the very near future, as soon as the end of this week.
If it reigns true, Lambert would take the starting rotation spot of Kyle Freeland, who’s fall from grace took him to Triple-A Albuquerque last week after coming 4th in the National League Cy Young Award voting last season.
As Harding noted in a separate tweet, the Rockies currently have Jeff Hoffman and German Marquez slated to start for the team on Tuesday and Wednesday but after that, the Rockies will “work from there.”
That means that Lambert will likely see his debut come in the 4 game series next weekend against the New York Mets in New York City before the Rockies return home to face the Cubs and Padres.
Lambert, 22, is in his first full season at the Triple-A level as he spent some of 2018 in Albuquerque but he started the season in Double-A Hartford.
This season, Lambert is 2-2 with a 5.07 ERA in the very hitter friendly Pacific Coast League in 11 starts. In 60.1 innings pitched, he has allowed an average of 9.4 hits per nine innings along with 1.5 home runs, 2.4 walks, and 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings.

Final Thoughts
If Lambert does make his debut this week, I think that it will be interesting to see if Lambert just makes one start or a few starts before being sent back to Albuquerque or if the Rockies will decide to keep him in the Majors for good.
It will likely depend on how he does at the major league level, how long Kyle Freeland takes to figure things out in Albuquerque, and how other starters (e.g. Jeff Hoffman) do.
Also, it could depend on if the Rockies are in contention for a playoff spot as they could look to add a starter or two before the July 31 hard trade deadline, as there is no more waiver trading in August anymore.
