Congrats are due to Charlie Blackmon, who stole his 39th and 40th bases this week against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

That puts him in some very special company, making Chuck Nazty just the fourth player in Colorado Rockies’ history to swipe at least forty bases in a season. He joins Eric Young (who did it twice, ’93 and ’96), Juan Pierre (who also did it twice, ’01 and ’02) and Willy Taveras (’08).

Blackmon seemed pretty pumped about that:

"“I’ve never been there before. It’s really cool. I didn’t really set out to have certain number goals in mind, but I’m certainly happy with my improvement over last year.”"

Yeah, hey, what about that improvement? Blackmon stole 13 bases in 151 combined games across 2011, 2012 , and 2013. Last year, in 154 games, he stole 28 bases. This year, with a dozen games to go, he’s already stolen 40. Getting better every year!
