Trending up (Javier Palacios): The ace of the staff, Palacios has allowed two earned runs in his last three starts, covering 17 total innings.

In those 17 innings, he’s also give up 12 hits and four walks, while striking out nine batters.

All told, he’s 3-2 with a 3.14 ERA in 10 starts for the Hawks, giving up 51 hits in just 51.2 innings with just 11 walks against 33 strikeouts — and no home runs allowed.

As we’ve written before, expect 21-year old Palacios to get a legitimate shot in Asheville’s rotation next summer as the Rockies see how he will adjust to full-season minor league ball.

Trending down (Wesley Jones): A 20-year old drafted in the 31st round in 2013, Wesley Jones has never really hit in the Rockies’ organization.

In his Rockies career, he’s now slashing .204/.246/.243 across 3 seasons and 313 at-bats, striking out 58 times while walking just eleven.

It’s particularly ugly in Boise this summer, where he’s 9-for-80 (!) in limited action, slashing .113/.163/.175.

According to Baseball America, the Rockies gave Jones $150,000 to sign and go pro instead of going to play at the University of Georgia, and as of now… that looks like maybe the wrong move for the middle infielder who’s now 20-years old and in his third year in short-season ball.
