When it comes to scoring runs, the Colorado Rockies are going in the wrong direction. Just one day ahead of their home-opener, The Rockies managed just one run for the third straight game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Despite scattering eight hits, and getting nine runners into scoring position, the Rockies, got just one of those runners in in a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia. The loss dropped the Rockies to a meager 1-5 this season, as they head to Denver for their first home series of 2025.

Sean Bouchard had a pinch-hit RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the Rockies struggled in all phases, including a rough outing from Antonio Senzatela, who surrendered 10 hits, but just one run, while striking out three.

Now, Colorado will head home for a series against the A’s, which is scheduled to start Friday, weather permitting. Before the Rockies return home, here’s three takes from the Philadelphia series.

3. The Rockies’ defense is holding down the fort

In three games against the Phillies, the pitching and hitting might have been awful, but, the Rockies’ defense was stellar when given a chance to be. On Thursday, the Rockies had three double plays, which helped Senzatela and others get out of trouble.

2. Starters did their jobs again

Colorado’s starting pitchers have, for the most part, been solid. Even Senzatela’s starts was good considering he handed the bullpen a one-run game, which quickly turned into a 2-0 game when Kyle Schwarber hit a blast in the seventh. Sooner or later though, Colorado’s bullpen is going to have to start helping out the starters.

1. No big bats

The Rockies have produced plenty of hits, including even some extra bases. But, where are there homers and clutch hits? Right now, they’re nowhere to be found. Michael Toglia, Colorado’s big bat, is off to a horrific start, but Ryan McMahon, Kris Bryant and even Ezequiel Tovar haven’t been much better. Colorado was banking on being a power-hitting team this season, but so far, they’ve been anything but.
