Three things the Rockies should do to help the offense, including calling up Amador

Colorado's offense needs life and it needs it in a hurry

The last two nights in San Diego have been awful for the Colorado Rockies.

Already last in the majors in most hitting categories, and leading the league in the most strikeouts per nine innings, things have gone from bad to worse at Petco Park.

On Friday and Saturday combined, the Rockies have failed to score a run and have scattered just seven hits against the Padres. They’ve left runners in scoring position, too, and that’s plagued them all season long.

Clearly, what the Rockies are doing isn’t working. No, Bid Black needs to keep making changes, trying anything to jumpstart the offense. Not that he hasn’t been trying, as he’s moved players all around the order, and made big moves like playing Zac Even in every game since being called up.

But, with the Rox continuing to spiral, Black can’t afford to stop tinkering. Because, while it’s a long, long season, the Rockies better start hitting soon, or things are going to get even uglier.

And while Black has already tried many solutions, here’s there more suggestions too help start the Rockies’ offense.

  • Bench Michael Toglia for a while

Toglia is supposed to be Colorado’s homer hitter. But he’s locked in a truly horrific season-opening slump right now. And while Colorado doesn’t technically carry another first basemen, Kris Bryant and Hunter Goodman both can play there. Let’s face it, Toglia doesn’t just need an off day, he needs a reset, and while Bryant hasn’t been any better at the plate, he can’t possibly do any worse then what Toglia has brought to the table.

  • Call up and play Adeal Amador

Like Zac Veen was doing, Amador is killing it in AAA, and the Rockies need more offense. Amador crushed it in spring training, and looked big-league ready. He’d be perfect at second and let Kyle Farmer DH, because he’s red-hot, too. Adding Amador to the lineup now is better then waiting to call him up in th May or in September when it’s way too late. Drastic changes are needed in Denver, and Amador can do just that. Rumor has it he’s on his way.

  • Let the outfield lead the way

The Rockies already know what they have in Brenton Doyle. They also are banking on Veen at this point as well. But they have two more young standouts in Nick Martini and Mickey Moniak and those two should be playing as much as possible. Martini has been really good much of the spring and early season, and Moniak has a high celing. And with Coloorado’s power hitters not producing, all of the outfielders should be at the top of the order because they’ve delivered more then anybody else in the lineup.
