There isn’t much going right for the Colorado Rockies. Mired in a terrible offensive slump, and already stuck in dead last place in the National League West, it’s hard to find the Rockies’ bright spots right now.
Yet, if you look hard enough, they are there. The light has been shining on several Rockies, and they’re players that maybe we didn’t see coming. Here’s a look at three such players who are off to surprisingly strong starts for the struggling club.
3. Hunter Goodman
Not even projected to be the every day catcher before spring training, Goodman was red-hot as March turned to April. He has three home runs, he’s hovering around the .300 mark and he leads the team in slugging. Goodman has also been really good behind the plate, and the Rockies’ pitching staff needs that. Goodman was once a Top 30 Prospect in the Rockies’ organization, but now, he’s perhaps the Rockies’ best catcher in the major leagues.
2. Chase Dollander
The surprise is that Dollander got called up so early. He was sent down to AAA just before spring training ended, but, with Austin Gomber unable to recover from injury, Dollander was back with the big-league club just two weeks in. And Dollander has been spectacular. With a 1-1 record, he has a 5.14 ERA, but he’s also struck out 13 hitters in just two starts. Dollander has already shown he belongs in the big leagues, and hopefully he stays in Denver for a long, long time.

1. Kyle Farmer
When Thairo Estrada went down, Farmer got the nod to start at second base, even though the Rockies traded for Tyler Freeman. But Farmer has surprisingly been the Rockies’ best hitter so far. He’s batting .349 with 15 hits and three RBI’s while leading the Rockies in OPS. Farmer in fact its playing so well, he may not give the second base job back to Estrada when he comes off the DL.
