The Colorado Rockies are off and running in what they hope is a promising 2025 season. Yet, the season is a marathon and not a sprint.
If the Rockies are going to improve on what was a dismal 2024, a lot has to go right, and that includes individual players having breakouts this year.
Here are three of those players who Colorado needs in order to have a big 2025.
3. Ryan McMahon
Plenty of Rockies need to come up big in order for Colorado to make a move this season. McMahon is certainly one of those. At the age of 30, McMahon is no longer a young player on the rise. He’s been in the big leagues since 2017, and has been extremely reliable at third base for Colorado. However, McMahon is also a career .243 hitter. He has yet to really put it all together. In 2024, he hit 20 homers and drove in just 65 runs, while also striking out 185 times. That’s way too high for the third hole hitter in a potentially powerful lineup. No, this season McMahon needs to be way better offensively, or, the Rockies might need to re-think the hot corner.

2. Jordan Beck
This spot could have easily been reserved for Nolan Jones, but he was traded away, so Beck is now the guy that needs to have a huge season. Beck’s raw talent has always been there. He’s powerful at the plate and as an athlete in the outfield. He’s got all the tools. And while he’s just 23 years old, and is just in his second season in the bigs, the Rox can’t wait long for him to blossom. They chose to stick with Beck over Jones and over Zac Veen, and Beck needs to prove the decision right. If the Rockies are going to be good this season, talented players like Beck have to produce.
1. Michael Toglia
Honestly, Toglia shouldn’t be on this list simply because he’s proven himself. However, the Rockies can’t climb the ladder if Toglia is average. No, he needs to be one of Colorado’s power-hitting stars. Toglia has all the tools to be a classic home run hitting first baseman. But potential only gets a team so far. Instead, the Rockies need Toglia to hit 35-40 homers and drive in 100 runs. They need him to be a star. Unfortunately, they won’t get very far if he’s not.
