There’s plenty of blame for the Colorado Rockies’ start to the season to go around. In fact, just about everybody is to blame, because nobody’s doing much of anything positive in Colorado thus far.
Let’s face it, when you’re as bad as the Rockies have been statistically so far in 2025, it’s easy to point fingers, and there’s plenty to point at.
Some players however, have been better then others, and there’s some current Rockies on the roster who probably shouldn’t be there when May 1 rolls around.
Here’s three players who, one way or another, shouldn’t be on Colorado’s roster after May 1.
3. Tyler Freeman
He came over in the trade with Nolan Jones, and that was to help fill a gap at second base after Thairo Estrada got injured. But with Kyle Farmer playing like an All-Star, with Adeal Amador called up, and Estrada due back next month, there’s really no reason to keep Freeman. He has just one hit in 11 at-bats, and where the Rockies are right now, it’s simply better to give Amador the playing time and see what they’ve got in the young phenom. Freeman is also on the 10-day IL right now, so there’s little he offers in the way of help.

2. Scott Alexander
As expected, the Rockies’ bullpen has struggled, and Alexander, who came over from the A’s, has struggled right along with it. It’s easy to say hardly anyone on the Rockies’ pen should be there right now, but Alexander has really struggled to find his stuff, and when Austin Gomber comes back, he’s likely headed to the bullpen anyway.
1. Kris Bryant
This hurts to say, but, it’s become painfully clear the Rockies need to move on from Bryant. Giving him his outright release a few years after signing him to a huge deal doesn’t seem like a great idea, but, there really aren’t many other ways to do it. Bryant is now on his ninth stint on the injured list and it’s his back again. He’s never truly been healthy, and even when he seems to be, he isn’t producing at the plate. Bryant was a great player for a short amount of time in the major leagues, but that time has come and gone, and he’s never going to be anywhere near what the Rockies were hoping for. Honestly, Bryant probably just needs to retire, but no matter what, it’s time for Colorado to move on. That part really isn’t debatable anymore.
